mushroom foraging...

i would love to try mushroom hunting this fall, under the supervision of a trained guide of course. i'm a wee bit nervous since last time i took a wild edible class they had us eat wisteria... which is definitely listed as inedible due to its poisonous qualities. and when i say we ate wisteria, we didn't just nibble...we ate bushels of the stuff. this time around i am reseaching my options so i don't end up croaking over a wrongly identified funghi.

here is a great npr piece with angelo garro, a master forager to get you in the spirit!

I joined the New York Mycological Society this past year and made it out to their annual morel hunt. DK and I had so much fun tramping around the woods, but we didn't spot a single morel. They're really sneaky! Our carpool-mate, however, filled a giant bag with them. I have my fingers crossed for next year...
